Ryhope is a village south of Sunderland and just under three miles from the city centre. Ryhope is a thriving village with deep roots in the mining industry and industrial revolution of the North East. One of the best places to experience the history of Ryhope is at the Ryhope Engines Museum. Many regard the historical building as one of the finest industrial monuments in the North East.

Being surrounded by open countryside and its location on the coast means plenty of ways to relax. You can walk up the Tunstall Hills to get spectacular views of the surrounding area. Additionally, Ryhope beach is a popular place for dog walking or weekend strolls. For sports lovers, there are regular football matches in the Northern League, or you can watch a cricket match at Ryhope Cricket Club.

Its proximity to Sunderland and Seaham means it’s easy to drive or hop in the bus for a day out. For example, Seaham has stunning sandy beaches and a beautiful coastline. Or a short journey north will take you to Sunderland — also home to spectacular beaches. Sunderland also offers a range of attractions, including the ‘National Glass Centre’, ‘Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens’ and the ‘North East Land, Sea and Air Museum’.

There are plenty of convenience shops in Ryhope serving the local community. The Asda superstore, Morrisons and Lidl shops are only a 5-minute drive from the centre of Ryhope. If you need larger shops or to buy clothes, Sunderland is only 15 minutes by car and 30 minutes by public transport. Doxford International Business Park and Nissan are also nearby, with many workers living in the area.

The attraction of living in Ryhope is that it has a village community, but close to Sunderland. Commuters have excellent bus links to the centre of Sunderland.
